The 2011 Alisdair Aird Good Pub Guide includes the White Horse in the new guide:
"Good imaginative food and relaxed civilised atmosphere in charmingly reworked country pub - This is a triumph for the Kingshotts, even better than their former pub the Beehive at Horringer (which under them was for many years a mainstay of our Suffolk section). Service is as friendly and efficient as ever. The well kept Adnams Bitter and Broadside, with a guest such as Old Cannon Gunners Daughter, come from handpumps on a gleaming copper bar counter; they have a good choice of wines by the glass and of other drinks such as local lager. The dark-beamed bar has a winter log fire in its big 17th-c fireplace (a cluster of lighted church candles in summer). Linked rooms off give more choice of where to sit, mainly at sturdy country-kitchen tables on beige carpet or antique floor tiles, with some attractively cushioned traditional wall seats. Landscape paintings (for sale) and old prints decorate walls painted in soft canary or sage; the bookshelves have books that are actually worth reading. The resident westie is called Skye. A neat sheltered back terrace is brightened up by colourful oilcloth tablecloths, and at the picnic-sets out on the grass birdsong emphasises what a peaceful spot this is."
"The energetic, enthusiastic landlords of The White Horse should be praised for their imaginative and well executed redesign and redecoration of the interior and exterior of this old building, leaving no stone unturned. In doing so they have created a very comfortable and relaxing enviroment in which to enjoy lunch or dinner or just a drink at your leisure.
I have on all my visits here, found the staff welcoming, friendly and accommadating and at the same time professional.Even the pub dog,a small West Highland White Terrier seems to know how to behave and doesn't impose herself too much on diners.
The food is as equally impressive and comforting as the surroundings, on my last visit I chose what was a well presented, warm smoked trout salad, then followed by a perfectly cooked succulent Gressingham duck breast and couldn't resist a very fresh tasting, zingy, lemon posset. I'm so glad The White Horse has been given a promising new life and is definitely a very worthy addition to any list of good suffolk dining pubs. I can't wait for my next visit, especially with summer on the way, perfect!"
"We went to the White Horse recently and had a great evening. The evening started with a very warm welcome and some drinks by the fire followed by excellent food and wine. The pub has got a great interior which creates a nice relaxing atmosphere. We would thoroughly recommend it."
"On holiday in Suffolk I was recommend the White Horse and I was not disappointed. Great beer and wine selection, very good food especially the homemade sausages and super friendly service. I will certainly re-visit next time I visit this lovely part of England."
"We have dined there several times now and each time it has been excellent. After several years in the doldrums the White Horse is on the up.
The food is varied and well cooked, the atmosphere relaxing and the staff very friendly. It has a very individual feel to it and it's good to see a pub that is not run by a huge chain.
We like it very much!"
"Walking in, I was presented with subtle Farrow & Ball painted walls and rush matting flooring - the decor alone gave the perfect balance between a classy, yet informal environment - the sort of place I could entertain business clients, yet also enjoy a quick supper after work without feeling I should 'dress up'.
Having perused the black boards, I made my selection and sat back to enjoy the most perfectly cooked Confit of Duck. Hearing the other diners recommending the various puddings to each other across their tables, I could not resist, so ordered the Apple and Blackberry pudding which did not disappoint - no 'Brake Brothers' pre cooked rubbish here!!!
A wonderful experience complimented by the young enthusiastic staff including the owners very cute West Highland White Terrier 'Sky' (she proved a huge hit with all the diners!). I shall return...very soon!"
